Getting into shape…need some advice, weight watchers?
I am finally ready to start getting back into shape. I’m 5′7″ and currently around 190lbs. I am hoping to get back down to the 145-150lb range. I’m looking for help on how to take the first few steps. Should I start working out a few days a week and gradually increase, or do I try and make myself go 6 times a week? Its been difficult for me to get started because I work long days and by the time I am done with work I just want to get home and relax. What is the best way to integrate working out into my daily routine? And I was also considering Weight Watchers as well. Has anyone had success with that program? I’m looking to lose the weight and keep it off, no I’m not looking for a fad diet to slim down. I realize that its a lifestyle change… Just not exactly sure where to begin!! Any input is appreciated.
Current workouts include daily walks/runs with my dog. Occasional weekend hikes and occasional gym visits. And as much as I would like to, a personal trainer is not in my budget.
Sound like you are getting good amount of exercise. To lose weight, you probably want to cut down the calorie intake.
I lost 30 pounds the past 6 months. I did not exercise much until a month ago.
Here are what I have done.
- I cut down my calories significantly by watching my sugar, fat intake. I tried not to eat fried food, soda, deserts, etc.
- I watch my portion. I tried not to overeat.
- I eat lots of vegetables & fruits.
- I don’t snack after dinner.
- I switch from sweat cocktail (e.g., cosmopolitan, margarita) to dirty martini
- I eat cereal with lots of fiber content
